Second Time's the Charm with the Dragpak
AGR Team Wins in Second Race with the shopHEMI.com/Paramount Performance DragPak Dodge Challenger
The Al Gennarelli Racing team raced the “Plum Crazy” Purple DragPak Challenger on Friday, November 4 in the final race of the Modern Street HEMI Shootout Series at Atco Raceway in Atco, N.J., and won the Unlimited class. The Atco race was just the second competition event for the AGR team with the shopHemi.com dragster and driver Tiff Daniels.
“What an awesome feeling to win in just our second race!” said Daniels. “The team and my crew chief Jason did a great job preparing the car for this event. I am thrilled we were able to win, and to gain this momentum going into the off-season. Also, I would like to thank my car owner, Al Gennarelli, and our sponsors, shopHEMI.com, Arrington Engines and Paramount Performance – we couldn’t have won this race without them!”
The Unlimited class is a “heads-up” division, meaning the drag racers leave the starting line at the same time. This type of racing puts an emphasis on the speed of the car, as well as the reaction time of the driver, which played well to the team, as the car had a great set up for the race. After qualifying in third, the AGR team made it through several tight elimination rounds and was able to pull through with the win.
Daniels also raced the DragPak in the “King of the Hill” event for class winners, which was an index race, meaning that drivers leave in a staggered start based on their dial-in time. She made it to the finals in the event, but went faster than the dial-in time, which relegated her to second-place in “King of the Hill.” Regardless of the second-place finish, making it to the finals in both divisions was a major accomplishment for the newly formed team.
The team also achieved another milestone at the event, setting a new personal best time with the dragster with a 9.77 second E.T. at 136 mph in practice. Different track conditions made race times slower, but the car still had the speed necessary to beat the competition in eliminations. The win was a fantastic way to end the year. During the next few weeks, the AGR team will be planning their schedule for the 2012 season.
